In May Alicia de Bánffy-Hall hosted the first Community Music Netzwerk national meeting at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, with music workshops on tune learning, band work, sound painting, music in prisons and early years settings, and network development. Over 65 practitioners from across Germany and Switzerland connected, learned, made music, and shared meals together.
The CMN emerged out of her PhD research in Munich, and has been chair since they founded it. Starting from a group of just eight people in Munich, they've now grown into a network of over 100 people, with many institutions supporting them—and they keep growing. Since 2012, they have worked on building this network: developing structures for organizing the network, making community music visible in Germany, connecting practitioners, working on quality, and developing practice in regional areas…
On 16.05, they  had their annual meeting, and Alicia de Bánffy-Hall stepped down as chair. During the last week, she felt a mix of emotions. Some sadness and a sense of mourning as she let go of this role and at the same time, she knows it is good for the network to be led by a new team—in the spirit of how it all began—with participatory action research and shared leadership at the core. She is now passing the baton to Matt Robinson and Marion Haak-Schulenburg, two exceptional community musicians she deeply trusts. Alicia wants to thank th​e amazing women she worked with—as a team, they led the network for the last few years: Marie Karaisl, Marion Haak-Schulenburg, and Swantje Ndiaye. Thank you also to Burkhard Hill and the Munich Community Music Action Research Group. Without them, we wouldn’t have started this in Munich all these years ago.

Im Mai war Alicia de Bánffy-Hall Gastgeberin des ersten nationalen Treffens des Community Music Netzwerks an der Fachhochschule Düsseldorf mit Musik-Workshops zu den Themen Melodienlernen, Bandarbeit, Klangmalerei, Musik in Gefängnissen und Kindergärten sowie Netzwerkentwicklung. Über 65 Praktiker aus ganz Deutschland und der Schweiz kamen zusammen, lernten, musizierten und aßen gemeinsam.
Das CMN ist aus Alicias Doktorarbeit in München hervorgegangen und sie ist seit der Gründung die Vorsitzende. Aus einer Gruppe von nur acht Personen in München ist inzwischen ein Netzwerk von über 100 Personen geworden, das von vielen Institutionen unterstützt wird - und es wächst weiter. Seit 2012 haben sie am Aufbau des Netzwerks gearbeitet: Strukturen für die Organisation des Netzwerks entwickelt, Community Music in Deutschland sichtbar gemacht, Praktiker miteinander verbunden, an der Qualität gearbeitet und die Praxis in den Regionen entwickelt...
Am 16.05. fand das jährliche Treffen statt, und Alicia de Bánffy-Hall trat als Vorsitzende zurück. In der letzten Woche erlebte sie ein Wechselbad der Gefühle. Gleichzeitig weiß sie, dass es gut für das Netzwerk ist, von einem neuen Team geleitet zu werden - ganz im Sinne der Anfänge des Netzwerks, bei denen partizipative Aktionsforschung und gemeinsame Führung im Mittelpunkt standen. Sie übergibt nun den Staffelstab an Matt Robinson und Marion Haak-Schulenburg, zwei außergewöhnliche Community Musicians, denen sie sehr vertraut. Alicia möchte den außergewöhnlichen Frauen danken, mit denen sie zusammengearbeitet hat - als Team haben sie das Netzwerk geleitet.
